Mission Statement

Polk County Golfers Opposed to Putting (PCGOP) is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to promoting accuracy, accountability, and first-shot success in the game of golf.
We believe putting represents an unnecessary step in the golfing process and that properly trained golfers should strive to complete every hole in a single stroke. Through education, advocacy, and community outreach, we work toward a future where putting is no longer viewed as an acceptable substitute for accuracy.

• Every hole was designed to be reached from the tee box.
• A golfer should know where the hole is before taking a shot.
• The hole does not move.
• Therefore, additional strokes should be unnecessary.
• Putting is best viewed as a temporary corrective measure rather than a long-term solution.

For generations, golfers have been taught that putting is an essential part of the game. Yet no one has adequately explained why a golfer should be rewarded for almost making a shot.

Imagine if other sports adopted this philosophy:

• Bowlers receive points for almost knocking down all the pins.
• Basketball players celebrate hitting the rim.
• Archers are congratulated for landing near the target.

The logic simply does not hold up.

At PCGOP, we advocate for a return to golf's original purpose: putting the ball in the hole on the first attempt.
